Subject: Urgent Call for Inclusion of Women, Dalits, and the Elimination of Torture in Election Manifesto
Dear Esteemed Chairperson and Members of the Election Manifesto Committee,
I hope this letter finds you in good health and high spirits.
As our nation stands at the precipice of yet another significant electoral event, it is imperative that we collectively address the pressing issues faced by marginalized communities, particularly women and Dalits, while also reaffirming our commitment to the elimination of torture in all its forms.
Throughout the course of history, women and Dalits have endured systemic discrimination, social injustices, and economic disparities. Despite progressive legislative measures, the ground reality remains starkly different. Women continue to grapple with gender-based violence, unequal access to education and healthcare, and limited participation in decision-making processes. Similarly, Dalits face caste-based discrimination, economic marginalization, and violence, perpetuating cycles of oppression and exclusion.
Furthermore, the prevalence of torture, both within state institutions and societal structures, represents a grave violation of human rights and dignity. The use of torture as a tool of coercion, punishment, or intimidation not only inflicts physical and psychological trauma but also undermines the very foundations of a just and democratic society.
In light of these challenges, I urge the Election Manifesto Committee to prioritize the following demands:
Empowerment of Women:
- Ensure gender parity and equal representation in legislative bodies, governance structures, and decision-making processes.
- Implement stringent measures to combat gender-based violence, including domestic abuse, sexual assault, and harassment.
- Allocate adequate resources for women's education, healthcare, and economic empowerment initiatives.
Protection of Dalit Rights:
- Enforce strict laws to prevent caste-based discrimination and violence against Dalits, ensuring their safety and security.
- Promote affirmative action policies and inclusive development programs to uplift Dalit communities and bridge existing socio-economic disparities.
- Facilitate access to justice and legal redressal mechanisms for victims of caste atrocities and discrimination.
Elimination of Torture:
- Ratify and implement international conventions and treaties, such as the UN Convention against Torture, to uphold human rights standards and prevent torture.
- Strengthen oversight mechanisms, including independent commissions and judicial inquiries, to investigate allegations of torture and hold perpetrators accountable.
- Provide rehabilitation and support services for survivors of torture, including medical care, psychosocial assistance, and legal aid.
The inclusion of these demands in the election manifesto reflects our commitment to building an inclusive, equitable, and just society. It reaffirms our pledge to uphold the principles of human dignity, equality, and justice for all.
Thank you for your attention to these critical issues and your unwavering dedication to the welfare of our nation.
Yours sincerely,
Lenin Raghuvanshi
