Bringing Light to the Eyes: Free Eye Check-Up Camp for the Needy in Pindra, Varanasi
Pindra (Varanasi), Uttar Pradesh — In a compassionate initiative to restore vision and dignity, a Free Eye Check-Up Camp was organized for survivors of torture and other marginalized individuals at Swaraji Devi Girls’ Inter College, Pindra. The camp was a collective effort by JanMitra Nyas, People’s Vigilance Committee on Human Rights (PVCHR), and the United Nations Voluntary Fund for Victims of Torture, in collaboration with the renowned RJ Shankara Eye Hospital.
This camp, held on Thursday, focused on providing much-needed eye care to the economically disadvantaged population in and around Pindra.
Key Outcomes of the Camp:

A total of 43 individuals underwent eye screening.

25 patients were identified with cataract, a major cause of avoidable blindness.

These patients will receive free cataract surgeries, lens implants, and spectacles at RJ Shankara Eye Hospital.

The hospital has committed to providing free transportation for all selected patients to and from the hospital for their surgery and follow-up care.
Medical Team and Leadership:
The camp was led by Mr. Yugal Chandra from RJ Shankara Eye Hospital, along with eye specialists Dr. Sonali and Dr. Jayendra. They were supported by a dedicated paramedical team comprising Nancy, Anjali, Satish, and Shyama. Their collective expertise and humane approach made the camp a significant success.
Community Support and Participation:
The camp witnessed active support from local community leaders and volunteers including Gram Pradhan Representative Mr. Krishna Kumar Gupta, Gullu Singh, Mangala Prasad Rajbhar, Rajendra Prasad, Sanjay Rajbhar, Vinod Kumar, Sandhya, Chameli Devi, and Geeta Maurya, whose contributions were invaluable in mobilizing the community and ensuring smooth execution.
Looking Ahead:
This camp marks a continuing commitment by JanMitra Nyas and RJ Shankara Eye Hospital, with the strong backing of the United Nations Voluntary Fund for Victims of Torture, to bring accessible healthcare to those who have suffered due to systemic neglect and violence. Future camps are planned to further address the pressing issue of cataract blindness among the rural poor.

नेत्रों में आशा की नई रोशनी: पिंडरा, वाराणसी में निशुल्क नेत्र जांच शिविर
पिंडरा (वाराणसी), उत्तर प्रदेश — सामाजिक न्याय और करुणा के पथ पर एक और प्रेरणादायक पहल के तहत, जनमित्र न्यास, मानवाधिकार जननिगरानी समिति (PVCHR) एवं United Nations Voluntary Fund for Victims of Torture के सहयोग से आर.जे. शंकरा आई हॉस्पिटल द्वारा पिंडरा में एक निशुल्क नेत्र जांच शिविर का आयोजन किया गया। यह शिविर स्वराजी देवी बालिका इंटर कॉलेज, ग्राम पंचायत पिंडरा के परिसर में गुरुवार को संपन्न हुआ।
इस विशेष शिविर का उद्देश्य था— संघर्षरत यातना पीड़ितों और अन्य ज़रूरतमंद व्यक्तियों को नेत्र संबंधी स्वास्थ्य सेवाएं उपलब्ध कराना, जिससे वे एक स्पष्ट और स्वस्थ दृष्टि के साथ अपने जीवन को आगे बढ़ा सकें।
शिविर की मुख्य उपलब्धियाँ:

कुल 43 लोगों ने अपनी आंखों की जांच कराई।

25 मरीजों में मोतियाबिंद की पहचान की गई।

इन मरीजों को अस्पताल में निशुल्क ऑपरेशन, लेंस प्रत्यारोपण एवं चश्मा उपलब्ध कराया जाएगा।

चयनित मरीजों को अस्पताल तक आने-जाने की सुविधा भी आर.जे. शंकरा आई हॉस्पिटल द्वारा दी जाएगी।
शिविर में विशेषज्ञों की समर्पित टीम:
शिविर का संचालन श्री युगल चंद्र के नेतृत्व में हुआ, जिसमें नेत्र विशेषज्ञ डॉ. सोनाली, डॉ. जयेंद्र, एवं सहयोगी नैंसी, अंजलि, सतीश और श्यामा शामिल रहे। उनकी सेवा भावना और संवेदनशीलता ने इस शिविर को एक सच्चा जनकल्याणकारी प्रयास बना दिया।
स्थानीय सहयोग और जनभागीदारी:
शिविर की सफलता में ग्राम प्रधान प्रतिनिधि श्री कृष्ण कुमार गुप्ता समेत गुल्लू सिंह, मंगला प्रसाद राजभर, राजेन्द्र प्रसाद, संजय राजभर, विनोद कुमार, संध्या, चमेली देवी और गीता मौर्या आदि का बहुमूल्य सहयोग रहा। यह सहभागिता दर्शाती है कि जब समाज मिलकर चलता है, तब बदलाव की राह आसान हो जाती है।
भविष्य की दिशा:
जनमित्र न्यास और आर.जे. शंकरा आई हॉस्पिटल की ओर से यह आश्वासन दिया गया कि इस प्रकार के नेत्र शिविर आगे भी आयोजित किए जाएंगे। इससे पिंडरा और आस-पास के ग्रामीण इलाकों में नेत्र रोगों विशेषकर मोतियाबिंद से पीड़ित गरीबों को राहत मिलती रहेगी।
