Discussion on neo dalits movement in gender perspective on 22 March in Varanasi

Greetings from PVCHR

The International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination is observed annually on 21 March. On that day, in 1960, police opened fire and killed 69 people at a peaceful demonstration in Sharpeville, South Africa, against the apartheid "pass laws". Proclaiming the ...Day in 1966, the General Assembly called on the international community to redouble its efforts to eliminate all forms of racial discrimination. http://www.un.org/en/events/racialdiscriminationday/

The first article of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights affirms that "all human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights". The International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination reminds us of our collective responsibility for promoting and protecting this ideal.

To commemorate this day, Savitri Bai Phule Womens' Forum (SWF) and Peoples' Vigilance Committee on Human Rights (PVCHR) are together launching neo dalit movement in India   http://www.pvchr.net/2011/07/call-for-neo-dalit-movement-to.html and if you are unable to come, please light a candle on that day and discuss the issue.

Celebration of day will be followed by a discussion on neo dalits movement in gender perspective(
