Today PVCHR observed Minorities Rights Day in
four district of Uttar Pradesh with focus discussion on strengthening human
rights institutions in India and also through human rights street movements.
The objective of the Observance shall be highlighting rights of Minorities,
Protection and Safeguard of the rights of the Minorities as enshrined in the
Constitution of India.

The Commission had a major role in protecting the rights of the minority communities and in bringing about better understanding among the various religious minority communities.
In order to strengthen the cause of the minorities, the United Nations promulgated the “Declaration on the Rights of Persons belonging to National or Ethnic, Religious and Linguistic Minorities” on 18th December 1992 proclaiming that:
“States shall protect the existence of the National or Ethnic, Cultural, Religious and Linguistic identity of minorities within their respective territories and encourage conditions for the promotion of that identity.”
