Despair to hope: Testimony of Ms. Kamarun Nisha

Scholarship for education helped to stop child marriage and bring hope for girls
Thanks to Rajdulari Foundation, Ms. Parul Sharma ji and 200 Swedish Donors for support to Ms. Kamarun Nisha. Please find her testimony:

My name is Kamarun Nisha. I live in Parmangdapur village in Arjiline Block of Varanasi in India. My father collects junks/scraps. We are four sisters and two brothers. My mother sells bangles for the expenses of family. After graduating the government school from 1 to 8 we four sisters and two brothers needed money for the further studies. But the earning of my father was not enough. My brother is working and continuing his studies one more year after class 8. Our studies were stopped due to the poor economic situation of our family. After that I met Sobina, a girl from  the village and I got to know about  PVCHR and I got scholarship from grade 9,from which I got to study second year of B.A now. If I get the scholarship for further studies I would study more. I am feeling really happy that I have been studying through the help of PVCHR and Rajdulari Foundation. If I had not got this scholarship I couldn’t have studied by my own and my parents would have forced me to get married.
I had left the school after grade 8  and my parents  wanted me to get married but I wanted to study, due to the lack of money I wasn’t  able to study further more. I knew about PVCHR from my friend then I told to my parents that if they will force me to marry  then I would run away. This scholarship helped me from child marriage and brings hope for higher education. After study, I want to become teacher and social worker.

Afroza Bano: a ray of hope from Parmandapur village of Varanasi

Thanks to Raj Dulari Foundation,Sweden , Ms. Parul Sharma ji and 200 Swedish Donors for scholarship support of education to girls.

Follows abstract from talk of Afroza Bano:

My name is Afroza Bano.I live in Parmandapur village in Arjiline Block of Varanasi, India. My father doesn’t have any work; he lives at mostly on Majar (Sufi religious place). Economic situation of my family is very poor. My mother works at home as well as knitting stitching. And my elder brother works in a company for the family expenses. Due to the poor condition of family my brother and sister couldn’t study. Today I am the student of B.A second year. I got the opportunity to study from Rajdulari foundation. If I get help for my further studies also I will give continuity to my studies and looking forward to become teacher. I want to promote education among girls in future.

                                      With her mother

When I went to study in college the boys would try to harass me they whistled at me and said they would kidnap me for sure and sometime they said they would burn my face with acids so, I was really scared and told to my parents about this and they told me to quit the college but I had no intention to quit my studies and with the help of PVCHR, I complained about this situation to the police and some of the boys were taken to police station. After that they stopped harassing me.

I had left the  studies after grade 10 and my parents wanted to make my marriage then with the help of PVCHR  and Rajdulari  Foundation, I was able to study.

Few steps against culture of silence and taboo related to mensuration

Quiz contest on menstruation process:
Quiz competition is away to break culture of silence and taboos related to mensuration. Organizer asked questions and girls gave answers. Organizers provided Sanitary Napkins as a gift on rights answers. It is very useful and impactful to inculcate information and break silence related to mensuration.
Snake ladder game in adolescence fair:
Snake ladder game focuses on sexual harassment and violence, both the games were played under the experts. Activists paused during the game and talked about the various topics such as ways to stop sexual harassment, related several government schemes like helpline numbers etc. Two girls played game. Other watched and participated in discussion. It is very intensive process to inculcate knowledge about sexual violence, gender injustice and ways to fight back.
Likewise, in the second phase of game, there was a discussion about the causes, impacts and prevention of malnutrition and hunger.
Other than quiz competition, PVCHR provided 173 sanitary pads to girls from most marginalized communities. It is a way to change attitude and practices related to use of sanitary pads in place of dirty cloths. Ms. Parul Sharma, a famous social worker of Sweden joined a meeting in Anei Musahar ghetto of Varanasi and she shared on her facebook ,”Shruti Nagvanshi from our partner organisation PVCHR explains the importance of hygienic behaviour during menstruation! She talks about dangers for women in using dirty cloth and why it is important to use sanitary napkins. Shruti Nagvanshi further explained that something so natural must not be treated as unnatural. Ms. Shruti asked teenage girls to ask their parents to buy sanitary napkins for them every month. 50 rupees per month is the cost. PVCHR distributed sanitary napkins to all the teen age girls! “
