Lighting the Lamp of Hope

🌟 Lighting the Lamp of Hope

The Inspiring Journey of the Sahni Family — From Struggle to Self-Reliance

A Father’s Dream, A Family’s Determination

In the humble village of Saraymohana, near the confluence of the Ganga and Varuna rivers in Varanasi, lives a family whose story radiates strength and faith.

The late Raghuvar Sahni, an auto-rickshaw driver earning barely ₹6,000 a month, dreamt of only one thing — a better life for his children through education. Despite the daily struggles of illness and poverty, he never compromised on that dream. His earnings often went toward school fees and books, leaving little for his own medical needs.

When he passed away in 2023, at just 46 years old after a long battle with Hepatitis B, the family’s world fell apart. The savings were gone, the auto had to be sold, and debt loomed large. But amidst the darkness, a quiet promise was born — to keep his dream alive.

Rising Beyond Loss: A Family’s Fight for Dignity

After their father’s passing, the Sahni siblings — Saniya, Saloni, Aditya, and Nikhil — stood together with extraordinary courage.

Sixteen-year-old Aditya began working as a part-time painter while continuing his schooling. His sisters, Saniya and Saloni, set up small stalls during local festivals like Shivratri and Panchkroshi Yatra, selling garlands, prasad, and homemade dahi. They also took up sewing and small seasonal work to support their household.

Every little effort — every rupee earned — became a tribute to their father’s memory.

“When you’ve lost everything, education becomes your only hope. We couldn’t let our father’s dream fade away,”
says Saniya, her voice filled with quiet determination.

Education: A Pathway to Empowerment

Amidst these struggles, Janmitra Nyas and Peoples’ Vigilance Committee on Human Rights (PVCHR) extended a helping hand. The organization provided scholarships to support Saniya and Saloni’s education during their school years, and even gifted Saloni a bicycle to make her commute safer and faster — a small gesture that brought freedom and efficiency to her daily life.

That timely support turned the tide.

  • Saniya completed her Bachelor’s degree and, in July 2025, enrolled in a Master of Arts (M.A.) program at Shri Ram Post Graduate College.
  • Saloni completed her Intermediate studies and is now pursuing a B.Sc. at Sudhakar Mahila Degree College.

What began as a struggle for survival has become a story of self-reliance and transformation.

“We are not just studying for ourselves. We are studying for our father — and for every child who thinks poverty can stop them,”
says Saloni, with a smile that carries both pride and pain.

Keeping the Light Alive

Today, the Sahni family continues to live with modest means but unshakable dignity. Their resilience has made them role models in their community. Other families in Saraymohana now look to them as proof that education truly is the key to empowerment.

Their story is more than a narrative of hardship — it is a celebration of human will and the transformative power of compassionate action.

🌸 Gratitude That Crosses Borders

Behind this success stands a circle of generosity — people who chose to believe in the dreams of a family miles away.

Our heartfelt gratitude to Ms. Parul Sharma and the kind donors from Sweden, whose compassion and consistent support through the Janmitra Nyas and PVCHR scholarship program made this journey possible.

Because of your commitment, a family that once faced despair now walks toward a brighter, self-reliant future.

“You didn’t just give us money — you gave us hope, courage, and the belief that we can stand on our own,”
says Saniya softly.

Your kindness has turned tears into smiles, fear into faith, and struggle into opportunity.

A Legacy of Hope

The late Raghuvar Sahni’s dream did not die with him — it lives on in his children’s determination, in every page of their notebooks, and in every dawn they rise to chase a new future.

Their story reminds us all that:
💫 Education is not just learning — it is liberation.
💫 Empowerment begins when someone believes in you.

Thanks to your support, the Sahni family now carries forward not just their father’s dream, but the spirit of resilience that can inspire many others like them.

🌍 Together, We Are Building Futures

The journey of the Sahni family stands as a powerful testament to what happens when compassion meets opportunity.

With continued support from our partners and donors, many more families like theirs can rise above hardship, find their voice, and build lives of dignity through education.

Thank you for keeping the light of hope burning — one family, one dream, and one life at a time.
