PVCHR central office has received information from its local PVCHR unit of Ambedkar Nagar District based in Uttar Pradesh. Hunger sallows the life of three people in same family in Mubarakpur municipality Ambedkar Nager district.

Case Detail.

Kanhaiya Lal Gupta son of Misri Lal Gupta 32 years old residing in Mubarakpur municipality ward no-04 Tanda tehsil Ambedkar Nager District. Kanhaiya Lal Gupta is living with his three children and younger brothers and his old age mother.


• Suman Devi age 15 years daughter of Kanhaiya Lal
• Munna age 6 years son of Kanhaiya Lal
• Ravindra age 3 years son of Kanhaiya Lal

Earlier Kanhaiya Lal run two-power loom due to the irregularity distribution in electricity he earns only 6 to 8 Rupees in whole day. The wages is so less after weaving one-meter tericott clothes he only earns one and half Rupees. When he did not find work then he engage in parelling the stone of wheat mill and earn 50 Rupees in a day. Due to irregularity in his present work he earns three hundred Rupees in a month. Kanhaiya Lal lost his half middle finger while parelling the stone of wheat mill. From last three month he is unable to do any work.

Kanhaiya Lal is homeless and now he is living in his relative house. Kanhaiya Lal relative sells his house to Aftab Alam Khan and he is making pressure on Kanhaiya Lal to vacant this house as soon as possible. Kanhaiya Lal Gupta has above poverty line (yellow) card so, Kanhaiya Lal is unable to buy ration at cheap price to fetch his family. Kanhaiya Lal hardly manages one time food for his family member.

Kanhaiya Lal’s wife Jai Mala died on 8th November, 2007 after delivery of the child. Jai Mala was physically very weak and suffering from Anemia which is also one symptom of malnutrition as during her advanced phase of pregnancy Jai Mala did not get nutritious diet as prescribed for the pregnant women. She eats only when food is left after providing food to every member of the family. Jai Mala has some complication during delivering child and in lack of medicine she lost her life.

Twenty three days baby of Kanhaiya Lal died on 30th November, 2007 due to diarrhea as child was not getting sufficient milk and medicine as he was physically very week. Kanhaiya Lal took child for the treatment in private hospital. Due to economic poverty child has lost his life.

Sundari Devi ten years old daughter of Kanhaiya Lal Gupta get faint and she gets treatment in nearby private doctor. She return back to home approximately at eight PM in the night she vomit worm the condition of Sundari become critical due to lack of treatment she died on 1st December, 2007 morning. Kanhaiya Lal did not do the funeral ceremony of her younger daughter he lost his one more daughter. Sundari Devi was starving from last one week.

Kanhaiya Lal Gupta is also taking care of his old mother and she is also not doing any work. Bhure Lal mother is entitled for old age pension. Kanhaiya Lal Gupta is supposed to be paid a nominal sum of money as old-age pension. The pension is distributed to the aged persons in the state by the government so that they receive some financial help in the absence of any pension from former employment. This pension distribution is a venue of high degree of corruption. Several persons like Kanhaiya Lal Gupta mother do not receive any pension even though they are entitled to it.

Manoj Singh Grass root activist of People’s Vigilance Committee on Human Rights gave 10 k.g of ration to Kanhaiya Lal Gupta.

After hearing death of three people in same family District magistrate Mr. Ajay Kumar Upadhaya and CDO Mr. T. N. Shukla went to the victim house. District Magistrate assured to improve his economical condition of the family. District Magistrate of Ambedkar Nager ordered to Tehsildar give all help to the sorrow family. Kanhaiya Lal gets 1200 Rupees and some ration and also District Magistrate Mr. Ajay Km. Upadhaya assured employment for one person in this family.

Background information:

Mubarakpur is municipality in Tanda Tehsil. This place is famous for Tanda terikat clothes and product is exported to all over India. Whole area depends on weaving and there is no alternate employment for them. National Thermal Power Corporation is situated at Tanda Faizabad Road, which is approx. 8 km far from Tanda which all units are working and power generation is being done.
This district was formed by the then Honorable Chief Minister Ms. Mayawati on September 29, 1995. The district was named Ambedkar Nagar in the memory of the Father of the Constitution, Dr. Bhim Rao Ambedkar for his work done for the upliftment of the depressed classes, women and other weaker sections of the Society. Primary Health center is five Kilo meter and Government school is one and half Kilo meter far from Mubarakpur.
After several cases of malnutrition and hunger death in various village of Ambedkar Nager district then also Anganwadi workers and ANM are denying their duty and responsibility. They are not identifying malnourished children and adding them to their center and not immunizing pregnant mother and child.

Therefore I urge you to do intervene in this case so; life of other person living in the family of Kanhaiya Lal may be safe and Article 21 of Indian Constitution Right to life may be safe and Anganwadi centre should be opened in every ghetto as order given by the Honorable Supreme Court in a Public Interest Litigation (WP No. 196/2001) filed by PUCL.
