Annual Report 2009 on Human Rights Defenders.

Dear All,

Greetings from PVCHR

For 2009, NATT is preparing a summary of the situation of human rights defenders in India as well as an overview of key cases, and I would be grateful for your assistance in putting together this information.

I would therefore be grateful if you could provide me with any information on the political context in your state for 2009, as well as the treatment of human rights defenders. In particular, please let me know:

1. the key issues relating to the general human rights situation in 2009 . This should include any positive (as well as negative) developments.

2. the major trends of repression against defenders, including:
- the methods of repression (such as legislation, killings, arbitrary detention, harassment etc)
- categories of defenders targeted (e.g. lawyers, economic and social rights advocates, women's rights defenders, trade union leaders, cyber-dissidents etc)
- developments (including positive) in the protection of defenders.

3. the key cases from 2009

I would be grateful if you could provide this information at your earliest convenience.  we would be grateful if you could provide us with this information by next wednesday. The report with be shared to Government of India and UN.

Looking for your kind support

With Warm Regards

My final words of advice to you are educate, agitate and organize; have faith in yourself. With justice on our side I do not see how we can loose our battle.. The battle to me is a matter of joy. The battle is in the fullest sense spiritual. There is nothing material or social in it. For ours is a battle not for wealth or for power. It is battle for freedom. It is the battle of reclamation of human personality….
Dr. B.R.Ambedkar
"If you are neutral in situations of injustice, you have chosen the side of the oppressor. If an elephant has its foot on the tail of a mouse and you say that you are neutral, the mouse will not appreciate your neutrality." (Desmond Tutu)
